Just two years ago, our hopes and dreams came true. Toyota Racing Development introduced its first-ever trim level for the Sequoia sport utility vehicle, the TRD Sport, and we were stoked at the implications. It meant TRD was dedicating time to working on more models than the big three (Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner). That proved to be true, as the 86 TRD Special Edition followed shortly after, then the announcement that the Camry & Avalon would have their own TRD trim levels for the 2020 model year.
We were hardly expecting another big-time announcement from TRD, but boy were we wrong. Recently, two more huge announcements were made, one being the first-ever RAV4 TRD trim level, and the other being the 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro in Palatine IL. TRD’s big three is no more, soon to be replaced by the big four.
Of course, one of the biggest additions for any TRD Pro Series model are the Fox Shocks. The Sequoia TRD Pro will be no different, adding aluminum-bodied internal bypass shocks tuned specifically for the Sequoia by TRD engineers. The Sequoia’s shocks are 2.5” in the front, featuring 7 compression zones and 2 rebound zones, and 2” in the back, featuring bottom-out-control technology. These are a huge deal that should make off-road driving much easier to maneuver.
The Sequoia TRD Pro will also be the fist of the series to offer several new features. This includes an upgraded 7” multimedia system featuring Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility, a JBL Premium Audio system, Smart Key with Push Button Start and more. Not to mention all of the great content found in lesser Sequoia trim levels.
