It has officially been twenty years since the Toyota Prius changed the automotive industry forever. Since then, dozens and dozens of other hybrid vehicles have entered the fray, including a few others bearing the Prius name. This includes, of course, the 2020 Toyota Prius Prime in Palatine IL. Since the Prime’s introduction just a few short years ago, it has been undergoing steady updates and enhancements to continue building it as one of the best plug-in hybrid options on the market.
In 2012, the Prius Prime was first introduced to the lineup under the name Prius Plug-in Hybrid. It remained on the lineup until 2015 when it disappeared, though there didn’t seem to be any noise of it getting discontinued. Then in 2017, the Prius Prime brought in the second generation of the PHV and we couldn’t be more excited about it.
As we stated, the Prius Prime seems to undergo some subtle updates and enhancements each year as engineers and designers try to perfect the relatively young model. Several upgrades and changes came to the Prius Prime for the 2020 model year, so we thought that’s what we’d focus on here. For starters, and this is huge for family drivers, a fifth seat has been added! Previously, only three passengers could join the driver, but now a fourth can fit comfortably in the rear as well!
As for technology, two additional 2.1A USB ports were added to the vehicle for passengers in the rear to utilize, while Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa and SiriusXM satellite radio were all made standard. A new sun visor extender was added to the vehicle to help block out the sun, while the front passenger’s seat-heating button was moved to enable easier usability. In addition, the white accents throughout the cabin were replaced with black accents to lend a more luxurious and premium feel.
Finally, the grade strategy was switched up in a way that now the Prius Prime will be offered in LE, XLE and Limited trim levels. If you’re interested in bringing home a 2020 Prius Prime of your own, be sure to fill out a form on this page and we’ll be in touch, or just give us a call yourself!
