When you think of hybrid vehicles, there’s a pretty good chance that one of the first automobiles to pop into your mind is the Toyota Prius. It was, after all, the original mass-produced hybrid sedan, making its global debut back at the turn of the century. Now, the 2020 Toyota Prius is available and it’s better than ever. Last year the brand introduced a brand-new all-wheel drive model adding even more versatility to what the Prius is capable of, and this model year looks to continue building that legacy.
As mentioned, the Prius made its global debut as the first mass-produced hybrid sedan for the 2000 model year. Technically, it was introduced before then, for the 1998 model year, but it was only available in Japan. 2000 saw the vehicle’s availability spread throughout Asia, Europe, Australia and all the way to America.
Generally, when you think of versatility in vehicles, SUVs, crossovers and even pickup trucks are what pop into mind. It’s not always a word associated with sedans or hybrid vehicles, but the Prius is truly versatile. It offers up to 65.5 cubic feet of space for all of your cargo in its hatchback trunk, but you can fit even more thanks to the available roof-mounted cargo crossbars. Plus, this is now the second year in which the Prius is available with an AWD-e drive system enhances its versatility even more so.
The Prius is packed full of other kinds of technologies and features as well, such as the full Toyota Safety Sense P package, an 11.6” multimedia display and a Premium JBL Audio system, just to name a few. The new generation of Prius, which was introduced just a few short years ago, is also more stylish and modern than ever before. Even as a hybrid sedan, it’s sporty exterior will have other drivers making double-takes when they realize you’re driving a Prius.
