Without a doubt the most exciting thing about the 2019 model year thus far, with perhaps the one exception being the possible release of a new Toyota Supra, has been the introducing of an all-new Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 has quickly become not only one of the most popular Toyota crossovers, but one of the most popular vehicles on the entire lineup. While exact specifications have yet to be released, we wanted to get a jump start on seeing how it measures up to some of its biggest 2019 competitors.
With that in mind, we’ve decided first to pit the 2019 Toyota RAV4 vs 2019 Chevy Trax. For now, the table below contains the 2018 model year’s specifications for the RAV4. The new Trax already has specs announced, so that column is correct.
As with any major overhaul and update, we imagine that the numbers will improve over the previous model. That’s why we feel comfortable plugging in the numbers from last year and seeing how they measure up to the competitor. For instance, in the first row we looked at horsepower. The 2018 RAV4 offers an extra 38 horsepower more than the 2019 Trax, and we imagine that the all-new RAV4 will offer even more power, thereby increasing that already sizeable advantage.
In the second row we looked at combined fuel efficiency, a number that the new Trax actually has a leg up in over last year’s RAV4. While we don’t know for sure, we imagine the RAV4 will be getting a boost to efficiency as well, so that number could very well increase to match the Trax or perhaps even surpass it.
While we imagine both vehicles will stay matched at 5 seats, there’s a good chance the 2019 RAV’s cargo capacity will stay the same. If the number changes, it won’t fluctuate by much, so we feel confident in the near 20-cubic-foot advantage that the RAV4 already has.
