Three model years have come and gone since the RAV4 Hybrid was officially introduced and released to market and it has only increased in popularity since its introduction. Now for the 2019 model year, the RAV4 Hybrid gets its first major overhaul as the entire RAV4 family gets reinvented. These changes can only bring more good tidings for the RAV4 Hybrid, as it not only benefits from the new design cues and technology changes of the traditional RAV4, but also the enhancements to Toyota’s hybrid powertrain, Toyota Hybrid System II.
There aren’t a lot of Hybrid-specific changes, outside of one pretty major improvement. The 2019 model year will be the first for the RAV4 XSE Hybrid trim level, a premium grade that just happens to be the sportiest RAV4 model available. Sportier than traditional RAV4 models, and even sportier than the RAV4 Adventure.
At the time this page is being written, exact specifications haven’t yet been released in terms of horsepower or efficiency, however Toyota has made a few claims regarding these things when it comes to the XSE Hybrid. They stated that they’re anticipating best-in-class fuel efficiency alongside increases in both horsepower and acceleration. It’s not easy to improve all of these things at the same time, but the RAV4 Hybrid proves it’s possible.
Let’s focus on what sets the XSE Hybrid apart from other trim levels. It receives piano-black accents throughout the exterior, all of which help make it as sporty as it is. It also has projector-beam LED headlights, which are exclusive to Hybrid models. It also not only features the THSII powertrain, but a sport-tuned suspension system. That means it doesn’t just look like the sportiest model, it truly is. These specs & features have only scratched the surface of what the RAV4 Hybrid offers.
