2019 Toyota Highlander vs 2019 Subaru Ascent

Whenever a new vehicle enters the playing field, we want to see how our own vehicles measure up to it and relay that information to you, so that you might make the most informed purchasing decision you can. This year, Subaru introduced a new midsize crossover that has made a real impression on the market. We thought we’d see how our own midsize crossover measures up by pitting the 2019 Toyota Highlander vs 2019 Subaru Ascent.

Subaru has been growing increasingly popular year after year and introducing a new flagship crossover was only a matter of time. The Highlander, on the other hand, has had nearly two full decades to perfect itself with experience, and so it certainly has a leg up in that regard.

Advantages of the 2019 Highlander

However, looking over the table above, it becomes clear that other advantages are going to be few and far between where specifications are concerned. With your first glance you’ll notice that the top row of the table depicts the Ascent’s surplus of 75 horsepower, a pretty massive advantage in any segment let alone the midsize crossover segment. And despite this huge advantage, the second row shows it also gets an extra mile to the gallon combined.

Moving on, the Ascent has a larger cargo area as well, offering an extra 4 cubic feet of space to fill with your luggage or groceries. The only reprieve the Highlander has is that it offers the same number of seats. However, there is much more to vehicles than these numbers. Toyota as a brand offers some of the best safety features and ratings on the market, and it would be difficult for a brand-new vehicle to compete with that. This includes things like the Star Safety program and Toyota Safety Sense, not to mention the host of other great content found throughout the crossover.

If you’re comfortable giving up a bit of power – and remember, there are more powerful engine options available in the Highlander, this is just the base trim level – and space in favor of safety and great content, then give us a call here at Arlington Toyota.
