In the non-luxury market, full-size sedans have begun to wane in recent years. While they haven’t quite gone the way of the station wagon yet, they’re not nearly as prevalent on the market. In many cases, those that remain might as well be luxury vehicles thanks to the amount of premium content packed inside and out. Our own flagship sedan is an excellent example of this, and we thought we’d see how it measures up to one of its biggest competitors in the segment by comparing the 2019 Toyota Avalon vs 2019 Buick LaCrosse.
The Buick LaCrosse has been around since 2005 and was just redesigned for its third generation in 2017, whereas the Toyota Avalon has been around since 1994 and enters its fifth generation this year in 2019! While the Avalon has a richer history and is a couple of years fresher, the LaCrosse makes an excellent opponent. Check out the table just below for some of the advantages each sedan has.
2019 Toyota Avalon |
Vs |
2019 Buick LaCrosse |
---|---|---|
22 mpg | City Fuel Efficiency | 20 mpg |
32 mpg | Highway Fuel Efficiency | 29 mpg |
301 HP | Horsepower | 310 HP |
16.1 cu. ft. | Cargo Capacity | 15.0 cu. ft. |
In the first half of the table, we take a look at fuel efficiency, starting of course with the two sedans’ city fuel economy and then moving onto highway. The Avalon achieves an extra 2 miles per gallon when driving through the city and an extra 3 mpg on the highway. While that’s not a massive difference, it does lead to some savings at the pump over time.
However, the Lacrosse fires back by generating an extra 9 horsepower. Similarly, however, 9 HP would hardly be noticeable in a side-by-side comparison. The Avalon fires off one more advantage in the final row as its trunk space offers just over an extra cubic foot of space to fill with whatever you need to bring along.
If you’re okay with the slight dip in power, then the 2019 Toyota Avalon would make a great choice for you. Just get in touch with us here at Arlington Toyota and we’ll get you in the driver’s seat as soon as possible!
