2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid vs 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Back in 2012, Toyota introduced a hybrid version to their flagship sedan the Avalon. Since then the Avalon Hybrid has been turning heads as an incredible option that blends premium, top-of-the-line content and specifications with a hybrid powertrain. There aren’t a ton of competitors in that segment, but considering the Avalon Hybrid was just redesigned for the 2019 model year, we thought we’d see how it measures up to another hybrid sedan that was just remodeled. In other words, we’re pitting the 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid vs 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid in a side-by-side comparison.

The Ford Fusion Hybrid has actually been around a bit longer than the Avalon Hybrid, having been introduced for the 2010 model year. However, both are all-new this year, and we’ve compiled some of their pertinent stats into the table just below.

2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid

Vs

2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid

215 HP Horsepower 188 HP
43 mpg City Fuel Efficiency 43 mpg
44 mpg Highway Fuel Efficiency 41 mpg
16.1 cu. ft. Cargo Capacity 12.0 cu. ft.

Advantages of the 2019 Avalon Hybrid

Looking at the table it becomes obvious that the Ford Fusion Hybrid puts up a good fight but simply cannot compete with the Avalon Hybrid. To be fair, it does belong to a smaller segment considering it’s a midsize sedan, and it also isn’t the Ford brand’s full-size flagship – that designation belongs to the Ford Taurus.

So, with that information in mind, the Fusion Hybrid puts up a pretty good fight. Even still, the Avalon Hybrid beats it at almost every turn. Starting in the first row with horsepower, the Avalon Hybrid delivers an extra 27 HP which means it likely offers a more enjoyable driving experience. The Fusion Hybrid manages to tie the Avalon Hybrid in city fuel efficiency, but it gives up 3 mpg to the Avalon Hybrid when they hop onto the highway. And, no surprise, the smaller sedan simply cannot compete in terms of trunk space, giving up 4.1 cubic feet. If you’re not looking for a full-size sedan, then maybe the Ford Fusion Hybrid is for you.

But if you want a top-of-the-line sedan that’s not only packed with premium content but delivers more horsepower, efficiency and space to boot, then get in touch with us to schedule a test drive behind the wheel of a 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid at your earliest convenience.
