While it’s not a pickup truck, the 4Runner is enough of a truck to have been considered for the TRD Pro Series, and we’re happy it did. It may not have some of the same powerful capabilities as its pickup siblings, but the 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro in Palatine IL is an outstanding off-road option. It gives other off-road icons like the Wrangler a run for its money, and continues to build its legacy year after year.
This year, like the rest of the Pro Series, it has undergone a few exciting updates that continue to increase its appeal. Much like the Tacoma and Tundra models, the first update it received was the new 2.5” shocks designed by Fox, enhancing the sport utility vehicle’s suspension by increasing lift and wheel travel. But there is plenty more to get excited about as well.
One new feature that is unique to the 4Runner is a TRD roost shield, which protects the rear shocks from elements often encountered when driving off road. Another great new feature exclusive to the 4Runner TRD Pro is a roof rack that lets you carry even more with you, either to the campsite or back home from it. Got some gear that was fine on your way out, but got a little dirty or stinking on your trip? Throw it in the roof rack so your drive home isn’t uncomfortable. There’s also a front skid plate, 17” matte-black alloy wheels, Nitto Terra Grappler all-terrain tires, a Premium JBL Audio system, a blacked-out TOYOTA grille, and much more.
