There are a ton of trucks on the market fitting to a surprising number of segments from midsize to light-duty to heavy-duty and everything in between. Today, we thought we’d take a look at a lesser-known rivalry by pitting our full-size, light-duty pickup against one of its biggest, most underrated competitors. The two trucks in question are the 2018 Toyota Tundra (of course) and the 2018 Nissan Titan.
The Tundra was introduced in 2000, and three years later the Titan came out. They’ve both been making waves in the truck segment for nearly two decades since, but many people seem to forget about them in favor of the big three. We’re here to show you not only the differences between these two trucks, but why they’re some of the best options in the segment as a whole, utilizing the table we’ve put together below.
2018 Toyota Tundra |
Vs |
2018 Nissan Titan |
---|---|---|
Standard | Advanced Safety Package | Not Available |
381 HP | Horsepower | 390 HP |
401 lb-ft. | Torque | 394 lb-ft. |
10,100 lbs. | Max Towing Capacity | 9,740 lbs. |
Safety is just important in a pickup truck as it is in a minivan or sedan. You might be less likely to drive around a gaggle of children in your Tundra than in your Sienna, but that doesn’t make your safety any less important. The Nissan Titan doesn’t offer any sort of advanced safety package, whereas the Tundra comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense P.
Unfortunately, the Nissan Titan does have an advantage in horsepower, but only by 9 HP. And, in return, the Tundra fires back with an extra 7 pound-feet of torque. With the low nature of these numbers, and the back and forth between the two specifications, the trucks’ are pretty much even in terms of power.
But the final row of the table proves the Tundra might have a leg up in power anyways, as it can tow up to 360 more pounds than the Titan can through trailering.
