2018 Toyota Prius vs 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid

The Toyota Prius is an iconic vehicle for multiple reasons. Obviously, it is the original hybrid vehicle. It will always be remembered in this fashion, and will continue to be the industry standard in terms of hybrid sedans. But it should also be iconic because of its ability to reinvent itself. A couple of years ago, the negative stigma associated with the Toyota Prius – which, for many, could be overlooked because of its incredible efficiency – was at an all-time high, so Toyota decided to change the game.

They introduced the all-new Toyota Prius, more stylish and sporty than ever, and ready to compete in an increasingly-steep segment. We thought we’d see how the newest Prius measures up to what has quickly become one of if not its biggest competitor, by pitting the 2018 Toyota Prius vs 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid.

2018 Toyota Prius

vs

2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid

Advantages of the 2018 Prius

As you can tell by glancing at the table above, which we’ve compiled out of some of the most important specifications to consider when shopping for any midsize sedan, the Toyota’s biggest advantage is surprisingly in terms of power. It offers an extra 17 horsepower, which certainly wouldn’t have been a thing for the previous version of the Toyota Prius.

Unfortunately, a vehicle has finally toppled the Prius in terms of hybrid efficiency. The Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid will save you a bit of money at the pump over time, and as you can see in the third row it offers a bit more cargo space in the back as well, but can it really compete with the Prius as a whole? The Prius is much more than just efficiency, it’s packed with outstanding features in the fields of convenience, connectivity, and especially safety, among others.

If you can overlook the fact that the Ioniq Hybrid actually offers slightly better fuel efficiency and cargo space than the new Prius, then we think you’ll be happy with your decision. Give us a call if you decide you’re in the market for a 2018 Toyota Prius!
