2018 Toyota Prius vs 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid

Sometimes being the first to do something can be a short-lived accomplishment. If you don’t keep up whatever it is that you did, someone else might come along and do it better. That’s not the case for Toyota and their hybrid technology. They introduced the first worldwide, mass-produced hybrid vehicle way back in the year 2000 with the Toyota Prius, and they’ve been improving and perfecting the technology ever since. Today, the Prius remains one of the best options in the hybrid class, and Toyota has more than a handful of other hybrid options to choose from.

There are plenty of other great competitors out there as well, though few have managed to surpass Toyota’s excellence. We thought we’d see how the current version of the pivotal hybrid sedan measures up to one of its biggest competitors by pitting the 2018 Toyota Prius vs 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid.

2018 Toyota Prius

Vs

2018 Honda Accord Hybrid

54 mpg City Fuel Efficiency 47 mpg
50 mpg Highway Fuel Efficiency 47 mpg
121 HP Horsepower 212 HP
24.6 cu. ft. Cargo Capacity 16.7 cu. ft.

Advantages of the 2018 Prius

As you can see in the table above, the Honda Accord Hybrid certainly holds its own, having one area that it is clearly superior to the Prius in, but the Prius model’s numerous advantages certainly outweigh that. In the first row we looked at city fuel efficiency, in which the Prius achieves an extra 7 miles per gallon in, before looking to the highway in the second row where that advantage drops to 3 mpg. Those two numbers combined mean that the Prius is going to save you quite a bit of money on fuel in the long run.

But, as mentioned, the Accord Hybrid does have a highlight of its own, displayed in the third row. Engineers of the Accord Hybrid clearly focused more on horsepower than efficiency, so the Accord Hybrid does deliver an extra 91 HP, which likely translate to a slightly more enjoyable time on the road. However, if you need to take a bunch of stuff on the road with you, then the Prius fires back with one more advantage: an extra 7.9 cubic feet of space to hold cargo.

If you can overlook the wide gap in power in favor of extra space for luggage or groceries and increased savings at the pump, then consider scheduling a test drive behind the wheel of a 2018 Toyota Prius right here at Arlington Toyota today!
