Last year saw the birth of a new hatchback version of the iconic Toyota Corolla, and this year it shows no signs of slowing its pace. Igniting a new battle in the long-standing Toyota vs. Honda rivalry, we’ve decided to compare our new favorite hatchback sedan against one of Honda’s by pitting the 2018 Toyota Corolla iM vs 2018 Honda Fit.
In order to do this, we’ve analyzed a few of the most important specifications found in vehicles like these to put together the table below. With one glance, you will see how comparable these two hatchbacks are to one another, but we’ll go into a bit more detail to highlight the obvious advantages each has over the other.
We’ll start right at the top and work our way down, which means we’re kicking things off with a look at power. Horsepower might not be as important in sedans like these as it is in a sports car, but it’s still important as, generally speaking, the more horses the more you enjoy your time on the road. The Corolla iM offers an extra 9 HP more than the Fit, which isn’t a huge advantage but certainly starts things off right for the iM.
The really important advantage for the Toyota Corolla iM comes in the next row, however. The Honda Fit is known for its immense space, but its 16.6 cubic feet of space behind the back row is 4.2 cu. ft. less than the iM offers. If you didn’t want more space for cargo, you probably wouldn’t be looking at the hatchback segment, so this is huge.
The Honda Fit does fire right back in the next row, by offering an extra 5 miles per gallon combined across the highway and city streets. That might save owners a bit of cash at the pump over time, but the fact that the Corolla iM offers an extra 3.4 gallons of fuel capacity means it has a longer driving range.
