Our favorite sports car is without a doubt the Toyota 86. While we mount up for the return of the iconic Toyota Supra, we want to remind you that there is already an outstanding performance coupe on our lineup that would make a great choice as well, especially for those who don’t wish to wait. We thought we’d show you exactly why it’s one of our favorite vehicles, by comparing it to one of its biggest competitors.
To do this, we’ve pit the 2018 Toyota 86 vs 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata, starting with the table below. In said table we’ve analyzed a few of the most important specifications to consider when shopping for a vehicle like these, and we’ll go through it row by row to give you a better idea of everything it has to offer.
As you can see from one glance at the table, the Toyota 86 is obviously the superior vehicle, at least by the numbers. The first row looks at performance, specifically horsepower, of which the 86 offers an extra 50 HP. The only advantage the Mazda Miata has over the 86 is efficiency, and we’re not sure 4 miles per gallon is quite enough to make up for all of the other disadvantages.
Rows three and four turn to space, which is important in a vehicle like this because you know you won’t have much of it. Point in case, the Toyota 86 only offers 6.9 cubic feet of space in its trunk, which is half if not less of the average sedan trunk size. However, it’s 2.3 cu. ft. larger than the MX-5’s. And despite that additional space, the 86 still offers seating for up to two more passengers.
