Toyota GR: What is it and what does it mean?
You’ve probably seen a Toyota TRD vehicle. The Camry, Avalon, Tacoma, Sequoia, and Tundra all have a TRD version. But what about Toyota GR?
What does Toyota GR mean?
Toyota GR Performance Division
Toyota GR stands for Gazoo (“garage” in Japanese) Racing. It is the subdivision of Toyota that produces highly-modified racing variants of vehicles. At the time of writing, that includes the GR Supra (the only GR model available in the States), the GR C-HR, the GR 86, and the GR Yaris. Notably, GR and TRD are not the same. TRD does mild performance tuning on otherwise normal vehicles; GR completely overhauls them to be high-performance.
