Toyota GR Yaris Officially Premiered
A few months ago, Toyota had planned to properly reveal the Yaris GR-4. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to push that date back. As such, it made a January 2020 premiere at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan. Now we’ve finally got the performance details we’ve been lacking. Is it the hot hatch that we’ve all been hoping for? If Team Gazoo Racing’s intention of winning a WRC event is any indication, the GR Yaris will live up to that designation. Let’s take a look.
Here are the Toyota Yaris GR-4 specs.
GR Yaris Specs
The GR Yaris is a product of the Toyota New Global Approach. It is a focused design, with a high-rigidity body and optimized front and rear suspensions. The GR-FOUR sport 4WD is the GR Yaris drivetrain. The upper body features multiple light-weight materials. Aluminum was used for the hood, trunk lid, and door panels; carbon fiber-reinforced plastics were used for the roof panel. A firm three-door cabin design suggest aerodynamic performance. A newly-designed G16E-GTS 1.6L turbocharged, direct-injected, inline three-cylinder engine is powering the GR Yaris. It sports a six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission.
The GR Yaris will come in two available trims: RZ First Edition for 3.96 million JPY ($36,040) and RZ High-performance First Edition for 4.56 million JPY ($41,494). The RZ First Edition trim will feature customized front grill, front side diffusers, rear spoiler, and rear bumper. The RZ High-performance First Edition will have the same as the RZ First Edition plus high-performance equipment for increased performance limits. It will also feature BBS forged-aluminum, matte black wheels.
