We were beginning to wonder if the Yaris would simply be a sedan from now on, given the dropping of any additional name beyond “2019 Toyota Yaris” and the lack of any information regarding the Hatchback. Today, those fears were put to rest as Toyota introduced an all-new 2020 Yaris Hatchback. They also introduced a 2020 Yaris Adventure, which was set to be a subcompact pickup truck… but that was clearly an April Fools’ Joke. The 2020 Yaris Hatchback, however, is very real, and it has a release date of later this year.

What’s new in the 2020 Yaris Hatchback?
As is always the case with a redesign, the actual design portion of the vehicle is one of the most noticeable and exciting changes to the vehicle. The Yaris Hatchback has been enhanced to look bolder and sportier than previous iterations, including a “cab-rearward” design that almost gives it a stance similar to that of a bulldog.
Design isn’t the only exciting change to the Yaris Hatchback, however. It also now comes equipped with Low-Speed Pre-Collision Safety System, Active Safety System, 6-speed Automatic Transmission with Sport Mode, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7” display audio screen, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, six speakers and two USB ports all as standard features. These technological features are a great enhancement for the entry-level sedan and complement its extra cargo capacity well.
While not new, we want to remind you that the Yaris Hatchback’s powertrain is actually quite powerful for its class. It might not sound like much, but the 1.5L 4-cylinder’s 106 horsepower is fairly impressive for a subcompact hatchback sedan. If you think you might be interested in the little bulldog when it arrives, be sure to let us know now so that we can give you updates as they become available. Expect more information when the Yaris Hatchback makes its official debut at the New York International Auto Show later this month.
